The Westchester Academy of Restorative Dentistry
By Edward Feinberg, DMD
The Westchester Academy of Restorative Dentistry was founded by Dr. Elliot Feinberg, a renowned expert in the field of fixed and removable bridgework. He created this organization to cover advanced topics in restorative dentistry for graduates of the two courses that he gives in his office through the Ninth District Dental Society. The courses--seven ½ day sessions each--are presented in the spring and in the fall. They have been given every year since 1957. The first course is devoted to fixed bridgework and demonstrates every step of the technique on a patient from start to finish. The technique includes full shoulder preparations, impressions, fabrication of temporaries and all techniques for porcelain to metal restorations with full laboratory control. The second course covers precision attachment removable partials, diagnosis and treatment planning, gingival and osseous reshaping and other advanced topics in restorative dentistry. Every step in the fabrication of a precision attachment case is demonstrated on a patient. Both courses include slide presentations from Dr. Feinberg’s collection of more than 100,000 slides of thousands of cases.
Graduates of Dr. Feinberg’s courses with excellent attendance at Academy meetings are invited to become members. There are about one hundred active members in the Academy, although the mailing list is much larger. The Academy was chartered by the State of New York in 1965 and meets three times a year at the Academy of Medicine Building in Purchase. Some of the topics covered at Academy lectures include implants, repairs, determination of centric and vertical dimension and the establishment of muscle harmony with bite planes. Dr. Elliot Feinberg currently serves the Academy as President; Dr. Elbridge Devine and Dr. Edward Feinberg serve as Vice-President; and Dr. Samuel Jacobs serves as Secretary-Treasurer. The officers assist Dr. Feinberg with the first and second courses.
Dr. Feinberg maintains a full time practice with Dr. Edward Feinberg, DMD in Scarsdale. He is a clinical professor at both Temple University and New York University and the author of Full Mouth Restoration in Daily Practice. Currently Dr. Feinberg is president of the Dental Society of the State of New York and president of the past presidents committee of the Ninth District Dental Society.
